Amma, known around the world as the hugging saint, operates a wide range of socio-welfare charities throughout India. Her charities have received countless honors in India for their ability to serve the most disadvantaged sections of Indian society, with little or no overhead. When the Tsunami hit the coast of India, Amma's charities were the first to provide relief efforts in their area. They were able to respond so quickly because Amma's organizational headquarters (ashram) in Kerala is a few feet from one of the beaches that was hit by the Tsunami. Amma's organization has committed $23 million to to help the Tsunami victims re-build their lives http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/4145695.stm. Volunteers do almost all the work in Amma's organization, with no "middle man". Your generous contributions will go directly to those in need.
